Bizarre Victorian fact of the day…
Charles Kingsley, the celebrated author of ‘The Water Babies’, was also a parish priest and chain smoker. He was so addicted to tobacco that he hid clay pipes in bushes and tree roots around his town in case the need to smoke overcame him while he was visiting his parishioners.
